Glengoyne is a Highland Distillery not far from Glasgow. Located in Killearn, owned by Ian Macleod Distillers, founded in 1883 and has been distilling nonstop since then.
Glengoyne is quite unique in one respect; it is distilled in the Highlands, then the casks are filled, they now cross the road outside, and these warehouses are actually in the Lowland Region.
This grand distillery has quite a range of single malts, starting with a 10 Year-old then 12, 15, 18, 21, 24, 25 and completing the range is a 30-year-old sherry cask.
Check out their website for full details (glengoyne.com), together with the great tours and tastings they do. A fine trip up to the distillery and a visit not to be missed. I have visited the distillery on a few occasions and thoroughly enjoyed every visit.
I have to mention that my wife Jacqueline took relatives from Ireland who were visiting us up to Glengoyne. They all did the tour and had a tasting, then in the shop, Jacqueline spotted a single malt distilled on our granddaughter Loren’s day of birth, 11th July 2000. This was quickly purchased, and we kept the bottle until she turned 18. So on a bright sunny summer afternoon, the bottle was opened with friends and family who all enjoyed a dram or two. It does not get much better than this.

Now is the time to open the bottle and have a wee taste. The barley is only ever air-dried, and the casks are always selected by hand. Bottled at natural colour.
Glengoyne 10 Year Old Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky, 40% Alc/vol, 70cl
Colour…Burnished oak.
Nose…Cooked apples and pears, vanilla custard, puff candy, and creme caramel.
Taste…Apples are very evident, some crushed mixed nuts, sugared almonds, Thorntons special toffee, a little oily, creamy like panna cotta, with a slight floral hint, some very mild spices leading into shaved oak staves.
Finish…Heading towards a long finish, apples are in charge with the vanilla and some cut grass.
Now this is quite an elegant 10-year-old, it certainly will not break the bank, depending on where you purchase it, distillery, whisky shop or online, the price varies, but it will be about the £40.00 mark.
