Australian Chardonnays reign supreme! In my pursuit of the chardonnay reformation, err should I say the re-affirmation of Chardonnay’s reign, I have more Chardies that give generously to the cause. Each of them are also wines that you might find in many Australian cellars. They are that collectible and the results are very fine.
Take your time with these wines so that you can appreciate the nuances – whether you savour the wilder side or choose the pretty wine with fragrant fruit notes. The choice is yours.

Pierro Chardonnay
One of the Margaret River gems. There is little doubt that this is a rich, buttery style of white wine. In contrast, a soft, yet refreshing flush of acid keeps this richness in check. The sage herbal lilt to the ripe pineapple and guava fruit also keeps that palate fresh too. What out for their excellent blended white Pierro LtC too – A little touch of Chardonnay.

Larry Cherubino Chardonnay
This is a classically made Chardonnay from the Margaret River – Wilyabrup & Yallingup sub-regions. Larry and his team judge this Chardonnay very well. It is fuller in body with some pineapple, savoury peach and citrus. What draws you in everytime is that well judged oak. It adds some nuttiness to the aroma and flavour profile.

Shaw + Smith M3 Chardonnay
The M3 is the very model of elegance and finesse and makes the balancing act between adding texture and maintaining freshness. It is what you should expect from Adelaide Hills fruit. The lemon citrus melds with some nectarine stonefruit and some gentle cream and cinnamon spice. This is one of the wines that is lighter in flavour while still being carefully made and creamy in style.

Brown Brothers Patricia Chardonnay
This Chardonnay from Tasmania’s Tamar Valley. Patricia Chardonnay’s richness starts with the aromas of grilled peach and pineapple, with some nuttiness. These aromas are lightened with lemon and pear. A richer style.

Mount Mary Chardonnay
The wines of Mount Mary are some of the most highly collectible wines from Australia. Once you taste this wine, you begin to understand. The waft arising the glass is of grapefruit, stonefruit and apple fruit enriched with a rich creamy nuttiness. These complex aromas continue on to the spiced palate. The fuller body has a lively slush of soft acid. There are some great Chardonnay wines from the Yarra Valley and this is one of the best.
