White Wolf Announces Vampire: The Masquerade V6 at Gen Con 2026

White Wolf has officially announced a new edition of Vampire: The Masquerade. The rumored project, now referred to as Vampire: The Masquerade V6, was announced during Gen Con 2026, will introduce new revised gameplay mechanics and simplified rules. Better still, a playtest is available.

The Vampire: The Masquerade V6 Announcement

During “The Future of White Wolf” panel at Gen Con, the studio announced that Vampire: The Masquerade V6, aka the sixth edition of the game, was in active development. The panel’s hosts promised this version of the game would honor what fans love about V:tM while modernizing its dice mechanics, character creation, and Storyteller tools.

The panel confirmed several creative choices around Vampire: The Masquerade V6. First, that the game is the debut project of White Wolf’s in-house development and publishing team. This means this version of the game will be a clean break from Vampire: The Masquerade V5, which was mostly overseen by Renegade Game Studios from 2018 to the present.

That break may bring back some lapsed Vampire: The Masquerade fans given some of the contentious creative choices of V5. This included controversial aesthetic choices for certain clans, gameplay overhauls like Vitae being replaced with a more abstract Hunger system, and massive shifts to the setting’s lore and metaplot, all centered around vampire society being uprooted by the rise of The Second Inquisition.

Vampire: The Masquerade V6 will also mark the gameplay debut of White Wolf’s Chief Creative Officer, Jess Lanzillo. Lanzillo is a tabletop industry veteran with prior credits working on Wizards of the Coast for Dungeons & Dragons. A amusing coincidence given the other notable V:tM project is Bound By Blood, a D&D Beyond supplement that blends the Kindred with the fantasy TTRPG.

The creative changes for V6 appear to be in service of simplifying or streamlining the game and to keep storytelling intense. Those changes include the following:

  • Core System Changes: Players’ Vitae, Willpower, and Health will now be one shared resource. Rising difficulties will remove dice from a pool instead of raising a target number. Players roll nearly all the dice at the table
  • Reimagined Tension: A Beast/Nature Tracker will be added alongside a revamped Humanity scale. This is to make every Kindred’s struggle with their inner Beast a more active, personalized system
  • Player and Storytelling Resources: Players and Storytellers have new resources to add to a scene. Players get Quickening on good rolls, which can enhance future rolls, whereas Storytellers use Drama to complicate scenes, empower NPCs or even threaten the Masquerade
  • Ideation and Creation: Physical and social conflict is streamlined into a unified procedure. Characters are created around lifepaths, natures, clan traits, and merits. In addition, Vampire Discipline powers scale with dots and favor active use over passive
  • New Gameplay Mechanics: V6 will introduce “Devil’s Bargains” and “Choose Your Pain” to support player-driven failure states. In addition, Storytellers can use a level-based building system for making NPCs. The core rules will also contain TTRPG Safety Tools for more explicit play

If you wish to be embraced by Vampire: The Masquerade V6 and want a sneak peek into this new era for World of Darkness, there is free open alpha playtest material available on Demiplane. The playtest contains material for seven Vampire clans: Brujah, Gangrel, Lasombra, Ministry, Nosferatu, Toreador, and Ventrue.
