The New Mondaine Doppio Watches Embrace Duality

For decades, Mondaine has been synonymous with Swiss precision, functional design, and a strong commitment to sustainability. Now, with the debut of the new Mondaine Doppio watch collection, the brand builds on those pillars while introducing one of its most thoughtful designs yet. Drawing inspiration from its own heritage and a focus on forward-thinking watchmaking, the Doppio Collection represents duality in both concept and execution, where tradition meets innovation, and minimalist form pairs with eco-conscious function.

The collection name, Doppio (Italian for “double” or “dual”), is partly a nod to the creative vision of Mondaine’s co-owners, brothers André and Ronnie Bernheim, and speaks to the marriage of old and new throughout the watches. Though the Doppio collection is home to 14 references globally, there are currently seven models available in the US for its American debut: four quartz models (two in a 33mm case and two in a 41mm case) and three 41mm solar-powered models. The cases are all fashioned from 316L stainless steel, but Mondaine does offer various colorways within the traditional quartz line — Gun gray and Blue IP for the larger versions and gold IP for the smaller editions. Conversely, the solar-powered editions are constructed from uncolored 316L stainless steel. The cases, which are water-resistant to 50 meters, are wonderfully slim, with the 41mm models clocking in at 9.1mm thick and the 33mm models measuring a mere 7.8mm thick.

Each watch retains the core design language that Mondaine is known for, from the iconic red seconds hand to the clean dial layout. Yet, there are also new elements that make the collection uniquely its own. These include a concave dial and a double-domed sapphire crystal that, together, create a subtle but striking interplay of depth, light, and curvature. Plus, rather than the blocky black hour and minute hands and prominent red dot on the seconds hand we’ve become familiar with on other Mondaine watches, the new Doppio watches include much slimmer, more minimalist double-lined hands.

All of the Doppio watches run on Ronda quartz movements. The Doppio 41mm with time and date is powered by the Ronda 515 with a 45-month battery life, while the time-only Doppio 33mm relies on the Ronda 763E with a 40-month battery life. The Doppio Quartz Solar watches, which also feature date windows, house the Ronda 213 solar quartz movement that harnesses light through subtly transparent dials to charge a rechargeable battery. That battery delivers up to 8 months of power, even in the dark. Just two minutes in direct sunlight is enough to restart a fully drained movement, offering a sustainable, eco-conscious solution for modern watch wearers. This certainly isn’t the first time Mondaine has dabbled in solar timekeeping — the watchmaker introduced the world’s first solar-powered analog watch in 1973.

Every part of the Doppio Collection is designed with sustainability in mind. The stainless steel used in the cases and mesh bracelets contains up to 91% recycled content. The straps are made from vegan leather crafted from wine production waste and apple, while production takes place in Mondaine’s Biberist facility, which is powered by 80% solar energy. What’s more, Mondaine Group has been fully CO₂-neutral across all emissions scopes of the GHG protocol since 2020, reinforcing the company’s We Care strategy.

As a tribute to the brand’s history, each caseback is engraved with Mondaine’s original 1951 logo — a symbol of continuity, built on a foundation of Swiss watchmaking and a vision for a sustainable future. Unmistakably Mondaine minimalist in style yet refreshingly updated in execution, the Doppio collection is slated to become yet another beloved creation from the Swiss watch brand.

The Doppio Quartz 41 in Gun (ref. MLE.41220.SM) is paired with a matching mesh bracelet, whereas the Doppio 41 Quartz in Blue (ref. MLE.41240.LDV) is fitted with a blue strap. The gold-toned Doppio Quartz 33 watches come with the choice of a brown strap (ref. MLE.33110.LGV) or a case-matching mesh bracelet (ref. MLE.33111.SM). Finally, the Doppio Quartz Solar editions are available with either a black strap (MLE.41910.LBV), steel mesh bracelet (ref. MLE.41910.SM), or blue leather strap (ref. MLE.41910.LDV). Prices for the new Mondaine Doppio Quartz watches range from $320 to $365 USD, and the new Mondaine Doppio Quartz Solar watches range from $455 to $480 USD.
