Club Carlson pulls the 2-for-1 and 4-for-2 rates

Club Carlson – the loyalty scheme of Radisson, Park Inn and other brands – have quietly pulled their long standing and much loved 2-for-1 and 4-for-2 rates in Europe.

The rate offer – which was open to Gold members and above – was subject to availability on the promotional rate on the date in question and was applicable for stays on Wednesday or Thursday arrivals (4-for-2 rate) and Thursday and Friday arrivals (2 for 1 rate).

Club Carlson replied to me on twitter that this was apparently due to ‘under utilisation of the offer’ (rather than abuse – which had been my suspicion).

In all honestly, this was the main thing making me regularly stay at ClubCarlson properties. I see no reason to now stay there going forward, ahead of staying at other chains with better footprints and loyalty schemes.

This also devalues the American Express platinum card in the UK, for which ClubCarlson Gold status is one of the bundled perks. This rate offer was one of (I would argue the main) perk of this status. As Club Carlson Gold does not give free breakfast, etc.
