TMC’s Reef Bio-react 2.0 Puts A New Spin On Media Reactors | Reef Builders

Tropical Marine Centre recently released a new innovative design of media reactor the Reef Bio-react 2.0. It comes in two models the 1440 (small) and 1441 (medium). The flow rate for the small version is 132 gallon/hour (500 l/h). It has a minimum pump power consumption of 2W and a maximum of 9W. It utilizes a maximum of 0.75A and has dimensions of 9.2″ x 3″ x 7.9″ (235 x 75 x 200mm).

The medium model has a flow rate of 264 gallon/hour (1000 l/h). It has a minimum pump power consumption of 3W and a maximum of 10W. It utilizes a maximum of 0.28A and has dimensions of 9.8″ x 3.5″ x 8.8″ (250 x 90 x 225mm).

Both of these models run off of the energy efficient DC Reef Pump. The small model utilizes the Reef Pump 500 with variable speed control and feeding mode with a controller that features an LCD screen. The medium version is fitted with the Reef Pump 1000 which has the same functionality as the 500.

If one is using carbon, phosphate media etc the unit comes with a sponge which can be bought separate to prevent back siphoning and clogging. The circular design choice addresses many of the potential design flaws of vertical reactors and makes it easy for new consumers inexperience with what an ideal flow rate looks like to easily dial in their media of choice and ensure proper contact time and flow with the press of a button using the DC controller.

We will be receiving some of these models to evaluate in the Reef Builders studio – stay tuned for more information. More details here.
