Katina Greca Amsterdam // Your Little Black Book

Katina Greca Amsterdam opened its doors to bring the true, authentic Greece to the heart of Amsterdam, according to founder Maria Smirnioti. You visit for the nostalgia, memories of the always sunny country, or for the best honey, olives, or olive oil in the world. The fact that you can also get typical Greek dishes to take away is a lovely bonus.

Atmosphere and interior at Katina Greca Amsterdam

In Greece, they do everything big. Think: large portions, big cups of coffee, and abundance. That’s precisely what you’ll find on the menu at Kantina Greca because nothing here is done halfway. This is precisely what makes you feel like you’re genuinely in Greece when you visit.

The walls of this venue are adorned with delicacies from the founder’s homeland. Think honeyoilsolivescrackerstoast, and, of course, beer and wine because Greeks love those as well.

Menu and dishes at Katina Greca

You’ll find items such as spanakotyropita, delicious spinach and feta pastries, moussaka, and savoury crêpes on the menu. Greeks are also big fans of savoury crêpes with vegetables and melted cheese as toppings. However, the sweet version is also gaining popularity in the Netherlands, with fillings like chocolate, banana, and biscuits.

If you want to keep it a bit healthier (generally speaking, Greek cuisine is very nutritious), opt for the gemista – a stuffed pepper with vegetables and rice. The kotopoulo brim is another favourite: vegetables with chicken, prepared in a typically Greek way with the herbs that characterise the country’s flavours.

Katina Greca is perfect for takeaway and as a deli

Looking for the tastiest ingredients to cook up a storm at home? You’ll find them at Kantina Greca. But, admittedly, you can just as quickly take away or even order because replicating these dishes with the same amount of love at home is nearly impossible. Stay for a cup of coffee, a slice of cake, and a friendly chat.

Tip: these (new) restaurants are also in the De Pijp neighbourhood
