Fonda Café Amsterdam // Your Little Black Book

Fonda Café Amsterdam is the newest hotspot in the Stedelijk Museum. That’s remarkable, as you wouldn’t normally have high expectations of a museum café. Good coffee is often more of a coincidence or a pleasant bonus. That’s not the case at Fonda, where the coffee, tea, and matcha are at their best.

Atmosphere and interior at Fonda Café Amsterdam

Who doesn’t know it—the iconic hall of the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam? Right on the Museumplein, you’ll find not one but two new hotspots under the name Fonda: Fonda Café and Fonda Bar, created by the owners of Oficina in Amsterdam West.

The bar area is located in the entrance hall on the ground floor and is freely accessible to everyone, whether you’re visiting the museum or not. Fonda Café is located on the first floor, near the building’s iconic staircase. To see the café, you’ll need a museum ticket or, of course, a museum card. The café has the charm of a classic luncheonette, complete with large shared tables and a self-service counter.

Menu and dishes at Fonda Café

You’ll find yourself in a unique space with an equally unique vibe at both locations. Having coffee or lunch in a historic building surrounded by some of the world’s most prominent artworks—what’s not to love?

The menu at Fonda offers more than just good coffee and tea. They bake fresh treats daily, such as homemade banana bread and other cakes. The classic French omelette, as is the oyster mushroom toast with fried egg, is also a must-try. Each dish is simple but delicious.

Fonda Café is perfect for lunch or coffee during your museum visit

Are you visiting the Stedelijk Museum, or do you have a museum card? Be sure to check out both the bar and café sections. The bar is worth a visit for anyone in the area—the coffee (from La Cabra, for the connoisseurs) and matcha are just as good as those at Oficina.
