Morningside and Brunsfield are two affluent neighbourhoods in south Edinburgh. I’m biased, but I think it’s one of the best places in the city. I’m lucky to have the long and vibrant high street as my local, and so I thought I’d recommend nine great coffee shops in the area. There are many, many more, but this is a good start. I’ve also linked each shop’s name to their Instagram account, so you can enjoy even more photos of delicious coffee and food.

Honeycomb & Co is a modern eatery serving brunch – or you can just visit for coffee and a slice of cake. They serve interesting coffees all year round, like their gianduja “Nutella” latte, plus limited edition coffees, like my maple pecan pie latte above. You also have to try their Mars Bar and mallow crispy slice!

A neighbourhood favourite, Salt Café serve delicious brunch dishes that use local and seasonal ingredients. I also love popping in for a takeaway coffee and sweet treat (the orange chocolate cookies are to die for!).

I actually haven’t visited Detour Espresso’s Morningside branch yet, but I love their other shop in Marchmont, not too far away. They have a great coffee and doughnut deal for £5.

This is a favourite of mine, and I’ve been to all seven (!) of their Edinburgh shops. Söderberg are a Swedish coffee shop and bakery who provide sandwiches, soup, coffee and baked treats. The cardamon bun and Skinka baguette (Serrano ham, mozzarella, salsa verde & rocket on sourdough baguette) are winners.

The Drip is a little indie coffee stop housed in a converted Police Information Box. They also have one in Tollcross. I love supporting them when I’m out running errands and often grab a takeaway coffee (usually a mocha) for the walk home.

Momo only joined Morningside in 2021 and offer a variety of sandwiches, breakfast dishes, and baked goods. I took my mum for the first time in the summer and had a fresh baguette and my trusty flat white.

I’ve only been here once which is shocking because it’s such a lovely, cosy local venue with a great selection of bagels, cakes, and coffee. I must go back soon.

Artisan Roast is famous in Edinburgh for being one of the best places to get coffee. They have a few shops across the city including a lovely one in Stockbridge that I must go to this year.

Furthest away from the top of Morningside, this modern coffee shop is opposite Bruntsfield Links, which leads onto the famous Meadows. I stumbled upon this by accident at the start of 2021 and it’s now one of my favourites: excellent coffee, friendly staff, delicious banana bread, and a lovely venue to read or work in.
What are your favourite coffee shops in Edinburgh? I’ll be writing a post about coffee shops across the city, soon!
