Judy Blume, despite being a staple of youth literature for decades, has not seen many of her books be adapted. At least, that was the case until the 2020s. In 2023, Are You There God, It’s Me Margaret hit the big screen. Now just two years later, we have a peek at the next of Blume’s classic works to be adapted.
The first trailer for Forever . . . has dropped. The story, which follows two teenagers who have found themselves falling in love, is being turned into a Netflix series. It’s also being modernized for that adaptation. Forever . . . follows two Black teens in 2018 Los Angeles as they navigate those first feelings of love, of romance, and, yes, of first time sex.

One thing that’s always made Forever. . . a staple of youth literature besides its timeless themes? That Blume has updated the book in subsequent reprintings to keep it relevant to today’s young audience. This adaptation continues in that steed.
No release date has been announced, but it is likely we’ll see Forever . . . hit Netflix this summer or early fall.
While you wait for the show to drop, dig into this look at the evolution of book covers for Blume’s Forever . . ., revisit some of Blume’s best quotes that resonate even after you’re a teenager, and hear youth literature superstar Jason Reynolds talk about how Forever . . . and Judy Blume were inspirations for his latest YA book.
