The Rakes Rescued Bride by Josie Bonham
My Rating: ★★★★★
Genre: Romantic Fiction
This is book five in the Reluctant Bride series
of standalone, Regency romances, linked by character.
Published 2nd
September 2023 and is available in eBook and Paperback.
Josie Bonham kindly offered me a copy of The Rake’s Rescued Bride in return for my honest review, and after reading the
first four in the series I could not wait to get stuck in. Did it live up to
the previous books in the series? Keep reading to find out.
Synopsis
Lucy Vaughan has never wanted a husband after
witnessing her father’s mistreatment of her mother. Now she faces her worst
nightmare, a forced marriage to a man she fears. Who better to help her to flee
than Bertie Lovell, the boy who slayed dragons for her when they were children.
Bertie
is the black sheep of his family but longs to leave his wild ways behind him
and settle down. Lucy’s suitor proves difficult to shake off. Spending so much
time together on the road leads to their friendship developing into something
deeper. Bertie offers to marry Lucy himself. Can Lucy overcome her fear of
marriage and accept Bertie’s offer?
My Review
Josie
Bonham has done it again; The Rake’s Rescued Bride is very well written and from
the moment I started reading I could not put the book down. It has a fast-paced
plot which kept me on the edge of my seat, wondering what would happen. It was
packed full to the brim with suspense and the threat of impending danger. Twisting
amongst the fast-paced plot you then get Lucy and Bertie’s chemistry, which was
quite slow paced, making it feel like we were dancing round the edge of a potential
romance in the making. Will they or wont they end up together – I wont spoil it
for you.
If
you have not read any of the previous books in the series, don’t worry, it
would work as a stand – alone novel, although, I enjoy the fact that we revisit
characters from previous books, and think it adds a familiarity and depth that
just enhances my enjoyment of each book.
Overall
if you enjoy the regency period and love a romance then you should love this.
This book was certainly one of those books that you want to keep reading to
find out what happens but as the pages pass by, you suddenly realise you don’t
want it to end.
Thank
you, Josie Bonham for letting me read and review your wonderful book. Yet again
you have created a thoroughly enjoyable, hard to put down read. I certainly
look forward to your next book.
