My review:
I don’t normally do this, but I’m going to stick my neck out and predict that this middle-grade fantasy is going to be the next big thing in children’s books. As a teacher of English, I’d love to read this with Year 7 or 8! It’s an absolute must for fans of Percy Jackson and Skellig.
The characterisation in this novel is very strong, with plenty of appealing characters and positive role-models in the forms of Cyrus, Martin and a host of others whose names I have no idea how to spell (the curse of listening to this as an audiobook, I’m afraid!). It’s also got a really strong sense of plot and setting, and some relatable (and not so relate-able!) situations.
I eagerly anticipate the release of the second book in this series, and very much hope that the film rights are snapped up soon. Kids are going to love this!
