Access, Inequality and Patient Treatment Pathways in Kenya – Somatosphere

Podcast with Ruth Prince, Professor of Medial Anthropology at the Institute of Health and Society, University of Oslo, in conversation with Thandeka Cochrane, Postdoctoral Research Associate, King’s College, London.

In this episode we speak to Ruth Prince, a medical anthropologist with decades of experience working in western Kenya. We chat to Ruth about her latest project following cancer patients in the country as they seek to navigate care in conditions of therapeutic resource scarcity and economic hardship. Ruth has been working on cancer in Kenya since 2014 and shares with us both her rich knowledge of the political, social and economic dimensions of the disease in the country as well as the many challenges that face anthropologists working with frequently economically disadvantaged people suffering from a terrible illness.
