mare immobile is the debut project of Sardinian composer Andrea Porcu.
The album unfolds as a longform ambient work exploring permanence, suspension, and the slow transformation of sound.
Built on extended durations and restrained harmonic movement, the music develops as a continuous expanse rather than a sequence of events. Layers drift gradually, waves of tone approach and recede without ever fully breaking, shaping a subtle tension between motion and stillness.
Rather than constructing landscapes, mare immobile observes them. The sound does not describe, but remains — lingering long enough for the listener to enter the space it generates. Through minimal variation and patient pacing, the album explores the relationship between surface and depth, between immobility and hidden flow.
Evoking the sea not as imagery but as a condition of listening, mare immobile inhabits the edges of silence, where change occurs slowly, almost imperceptibly, and time begins to dissolve.
“A quiet form of motion, unfolding below perception.”
