Fairy Tail RE:FANTASIA Chapter 02 Manga Review Review

SPOILER Summary/Synopsis:

With the Magnolia Harvest Festival in progress, Fairy Tail has their Miss Fairy Tail competition. The various girls of the guild do their thing with Erza going the extra mile. Mirajane is missing, so Ichiya decides to take her place. He gets things thrown at him instead.

Meanwhile at Kardia Cathedral, Mirajane finds Laxus inside. She tells him the story of the cathedral. She asks him to join in on the Fantasia fun. He’s reluctant to do so and remarks on how Mirajane has changed from her younger years. She states she thinks he’s changed as well. Their talk is interrupted by a strange noise.

The explosive noise reaches the Fair Tail building, alerting them. At the same time, humanoid blob monsters with either Ice, Fire, Wind, Magic, and Lightning kanji on their chests appear to attack the people. “Eraser” gets confronted by Jellal. He recognizes Jellal as Siegrain.

Thoughts/Review:

Apparently there’s only nine chapters for this series. With Fairy Tail RE:FANTASIA Chapter 02, we continue to get setup for the story. I have no real comments on the Miss Fairy Tail part of the chapter. It was silly with only Erza going the extra mile to win things,. I suppose she wins again. Either that or the contest will get forgotten. I can’t imagine that will happen, but I can’t imagine what kind of gag will come out of this.

As to the setup, I guess this story will show how Laxus fully reconciled with the guild. I am planning to (slowly) reread the OG Fairy Tail series for a Back to the Vaults review. That aside, I gather that this Harvest Festival is a year after the one when Laxus tried to take over the guild. Certainly, that previous story got referenced, including images from the manga then. So why Mashima-sensei wants Laxus and Mirajane together, I cannot fathom.

Finally, there’s the confrontation between Jellal and Eraser from Edens Zero. Obviously, Eraser can’t be the same person from that other series. But who knows what’s going on here. Guess we’ll find out more next week.

Final Thoughts and Conclusion

In the end, not a lot to say about Fairy Tail RE:FANTASIA Chapter 02. Not sure how much of a story we’ll get in nine chapters, but we’ll see.
