In case you haven’t heard, National Book Store has permanently closed its branch inside Centrio Ayala Mall in Cagayan de Oro City. No official reason has been given for the closure, although some netizens speculate that declining profit margins amid growing competition from online retailers and e-books may have played a role. Despite the closure, National Book Store continues to operate other branches in the city, including those at Limketkai Center, SM CDO Downtown, SM City Uptown, and Cogon.

Located on the mall’s ground floor at the northwest corner, the bookstore was one of Centrio’s pioneering tenants. Its closure marks the end of a chapter for the longtime retailer, which has served generations of customers with books, school supplies, and office essentials.
