Faith, Hope, and Love Will Remain (Pt. 2)

Have you ever considered how closely faith, hope, and love are connected in your walk with God? We often talk about them separately, but they were never meant to operate independently. Faith, hope, and love work together beautifully in the life of every believer. Paul reminds us in 1 Corinthians 13:13:

“And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.”

These three qualities are not simply words we read in Scripture. They are essential parts of a growing relationship with Jesus Christ. I have been very intentional about these three and desire to manifest them strongly in my Christian walk. I purpose to reject and overcome in the power of the Holy Spirit, all the negative input and attempts of the enemy to decrease my faith, hope, and love. May we all be sensitive to how he is trying to diminish or sabotage our faith, hope, and love in and for Jesus Christ.

Faith Gives Us Something to Stand On

Faith is trusting God even when we cannot see the outcome. There will be times when life does not make sense. There will be prayers that seem unanswered, circumstances that are difficult to understand, and seasons when we may wonder what God is doing. This is when our faith becomes especially important. Every believer can experience moments when their faith is tested. Faith says, “I may not understand everything, but I trust God.” Faith gives us the foundation upon which hope and love can grow.

Hope Gives Us Something to Look Forward To

Hope is more than wishing that something will happen. Biblical hope is confidence in God and His promises. When we place our hope in Jesus, difficult circumstances do not have the final word. We may experience disappointment, grief, uncertainty, or hardship, but we can still have hope because our future is in God’s hands.

Faith looks to God presently and says, “I trust You.” Hope looks ahead and says, “I believe Your Word about my future.” That is why faith and hope are so closely connected. When our faith becomes stronger, our hope becomes stronger. And when our hope is anchored in Christ, we can continue moving forward even when life becomes difficult.

Love Gives Faith and Hope a Purpose

Then we come to love. Love is not simply an emotion. It is demonstrated through our actions, our attitudes, our relationships, and the way we treat others. First Corinthians 13 reminds us that love is patient, kind, humble, and enduring. Without love, even great spiritual accomplishments can become empty. This is one reason why Paul declares that love is the greatest. Everything we do is to be done in love with the purpose of obeying Jesus and His command to do so (see 1 Corinthians 16:14).

Faith helps us trust God. Hope helps us continue believing in His promises. Love allows what God is doing and His character to flow through us to others.

Please understand:

• Faith will one day become sight. When we enter eternity, we will no longer need faith to believe in the unseen because we will see Jesus face to face.
• Hope will one day become reality. We will no longer need hope for future promises because they will be fulfilled.
• But love will continue forever and never end since God is love and He is eternal.

Faith, Hope and Love Work Together

Think about these three qualities as a spiritual foundation.

• Faith trusts.
• Hope expects.
• Love gives.

Faith helps us trust God in the present. Hope helps us look toward the future. Love helps us live for God and others right now.

When circumstances challenge our faith, hope reminds us that God is still working. When disappointment threatens our hope, faith reminds us of who God is. And through both, love keeps our hearts focused on God and on the people He has placed in our lives.

This is why spiritual growth requires more than simply knowing Scripture. We must allow God’s Word to transform how we think, how we respond, and how we live.

Are You Growing in All Three?

Maybe one of these areas needs attention today. If your faith needs strengthening, spend time in God’s Word (see Romans 10:17). If your hope has become dim, remind yourself of God’s promises (see Hebrews 10:23). If you have struggled to love someone, ask God to help you see that person through His eyes (see John 13:34).

Growth does not happen overnight. It happens as we continue walking with Jesus. Faith, hope, and love are not independent of one another. They are beautifully connected. Faith helps us trust God. Hope keeps us moving forward. Love allows us to reflect His heart. And when these three are actively working in our lives, we become more equipped to live the abundant life Jesus came to give us.

When one area weakens, the others are affected. A believer who struggles with faith often loses hope. A believer who loses hope may find it difficult to walk in love. But when all three are growing together, spiritual maturity develops naturally.

So, where are you today? Are you growing in faith? Are you holding onto hope? Are you walking in love? Bring all three before the Lord and allow Him to strengthen each area in your life. Your spiritual journey is not over. God is still working in you, and He wants to continue transforming your life through His eternal Word. May your faith grow stronger, your hope become brighter, and your love overflow as you continue to walk with Jesus.
