Adulting in my 20’s – Anike

I miss when all I had to worry about was if my mum would let me go out to play with my friends, if there was going to be light when I get back from school for me to watch my favorite show. I miss waking up and all in my head was playing with my friends, screaming for joy when I won whatever silly game we were playing that day.

I wish there was a class on adulting and I think other people wish this too. I think we need to be taught courses that will have an actual effect in our daily lives. I know some classes we take in primary school or secondary school make some influence in our lives as adults. But it is really hard to see those impacts these days. I wish I was taught what it means to make wise investments while I was in secondary school. I would have enough money to see myself through college. But then again, rather having fun moments in secondary school I would have been an adult.

So now here is a question. Does adulting really have an age it begins or it just begins when we have so much responsibilities?

Adulting is the most ghetto thing ever. I wake up and what I am thinking about is where my life is headed. What am I going to do to be successful. I even begin to wonder if success is actually for everyone or I should just be okay with where I am at. But sadly, it is human nature to always thrive for more. Thankfully, I have learnt how to be happy with where I am at and accept it does not define me but it is part of my growth “still learning”.

I never imagined how my twenties would be while I was in secondary school. Fun fact about me I just go wherever life takes me “life means my parents”. Parents are funny, they rarely let you make inputs or decisions for yourself and suddenly expect you to decide on what you want to make a career out of. When I was robbed of discovering myself at a younger age because I was following the map my parents wrote for me. Well I guess they love me so it’s all for the best. To be fair, I was allowed to express myself to an extent.

Anyways, now I make plans as I live my everyday life. The truth is we are all just navigating through life alone. We all have our own shit and we all have to deal with it. My own shit is to figure out what I want to do.

Lastly, finding a job is so difficult. I went to a university for four years and graduated. Why do I have to spend extra months trying to find a job. I did not have to go to a university but I went because I want better opportunities for myself and now I spend my day applying to jobs that I do not think I love but I need?

Long story short is “This Life is not balanced”

I appreciate you guys that view my blog.

Yours lovingly,

Anike
