- FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has declared that there is currently no formidable opposition ahead of the 2027 general election, saying his political mission is to make figures such as Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi uncomfortable.
- Wike also predicted a larger “Rainbow Coalition” in support of President Bola Tinubu, following Osun Governor Ademola Adeleke’s recent meetings with Tinubu and Wike in Abuja.

FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has declared that there is no formidable opposition ahead of the 2027 general election, saying his political mission is to make opposition figures including Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi uncomfortable.
Wike made the remarks on Friday in Abuja while speaking with journalists during an inspection of ongoing projects in the Federal Capital Territory.
“When you say opposition, I have told you, I don’t know what you call opposition. I say there is no opposition now,” Wike said.
The minister was reacting to the recent visit of Osun Governor Ademola Adeleke to President Bola Tinubu and later to Wike in Abuja. Wike described the meetings as evidence of an emerging “Rainbow Coalition” of politicians from different parties supporting Tinubu ahead of 2027.
“What happened last night is meeting to rebuild a larger Rainbow Coalition. And he (Adeleke) is supporting Mr President. He’s in a different party; I’m supporting Mr President, and I’m in a different party. So, it’s a larger Rainbow Coalition,” Wike said.
He added that more politicians could join the coalition in the coming weeks.
“And the next few weeks, watch what is going to happen. You will see a larger Rainbow Coalition in this country supporting Mr President,” he said.
Wike also dismissed claims by some members of the African Democratic Congress that the party played a significant role in Adeleke’s election victory, accusing them of trying to benefit from a success they did not create.
The former Rivers State governor was then asked about the likely reaction of opposition figures such as Atiku and Obi to his recent political engagements.
“I don’t care; whatever they feel is not my business. I don’t want them to feel well. It is not my wish that they should feel well.”
He continued, “My business is to make them not feel well all day, because they will be having high blood pressure. I guess that is my job, to make them have high blood pressure.”
Wike also said he intends to intensify the political challenges facing the opposition.
“I will add more crises for them. So, that’s my position.”
He described the 2027 presidential election as likely to be the easiest election for President Tinubu, maintaining that the opposition lacks a sufficiently strong party structure to mount a serious challenge.
Wike’s comments have triggered mixed reactions online, with some Nigerians mocking his remarks while others welcomed his confidence in the ruling camp.
