Rik Oostenbroek Soaks Up Sunsets and Street Textures, Then Turns Them Into Digital Worlds » Design You Trust — Design Daily Since 2007

Rik Oostenbroek is a self-taught Dutch visual artist, designer, and art director based in Hilversum, Netherlands>

Oostenbroek’s career began almost by accident: with no creative background, he discovered Photoshop around 2006 after a friend showed him CGI work by an Austrian designer. He started posting abstract images on DeviantArt, and at just 18 years old received a call from Volkswagen offering him 1,200 euros for a job — a paycheck that changed his trajectory entirely. He decided not to pursue further formal education, choosing instead to teach himself and build a studio in Hilversum’s industrial Stookplaats district, where he still works today.

Oostenbroek describes his style as “colorful and organic” — he actively avoids dark tones and sharp geometric forms, preferring intuitive compositions built from color combinations and textures he observes in everyday life, from a sunset to a trip abroad. His work spans abstract digital art, 3D graphics, typography, photo manipulation, and traditional illustration, and he continues to expand his practice into new mediums.
