'What quality he has': Leeds defender Jaka Bijol sends message to Man Utd star after Paul Scholes comments

Leeds United defender Jaka Bijol has told Manchester United striker Benjamin Sesko to distance himself from outside noise after recent comments from club legend Paul Scholes.

Sesko has had an injury-plagued start to the new season. He has already netted a couple of goals but is currently on the sidelines with a recurrence of a shin injury sustained in May.

Speaking on The Good, The Ball & The Football podcast, Scholes aimed a dig at Sesko and said the striker should continue playing with shinpads unless his shin is broken.

He said: “If it isn’t broken, just wear your shinpads. You’re a player – you either break your shin or you play!”

This has not gone well among Slovenian fans and players. Countryman and centre-back Bijol said that Sesko should ignore such comments and praised his quality on the pitch.

He told reporters (via The Daily Mail): “I hope and believe that Beni knows how to distance himself from this kind of pressure.

“When things aren’t going your best on the pitch and you have certain doubts, reading things like this can make your confidence even worse.

“He shouldn’t pay too much attention to it, since we all know what quality he has. He himself knows what kind of footballer he is, and I think he always shows it with incredible things on the pitch.”

Sesko will be determined to prove his worth

The 23-year-old was in and out of the starting XI during his debut season at United last term. Despite this, he scored 12 goals across all competitions, with 11 of those in the Premier League.

He was hugely influential after Michael Carrick took charge as interim manager. The Slovenian undoubtedly played a big part in United finishing third in the league standings.

Towards the end of the season, Sesko picked up a shin injury against Liverpool, which kept him sidelined throughout the summer. He returned in time for the new season but has suffered a recurrence.

The former RB Leipzig man was sidelined against Fulham as a result, and United will now determine the exact nature of the latest setback following a thorough medical examination this week.

The Red Devils will hope that the shin concern is a short-term one, and Sesko can return after the extended international break. United host Tottenham Hotspur next in the league on October 10.

Sesko has already answered his critics with some match-defining goals in the United shirt. He will be determined to prove his worth again once he becomes a regular part of the starting XI.
