Awards season is upon us, musicians all over are anxiously hoping the hard work and effort they put into their craft gets recognized and appreciated by fans and awards committees.
Just a few weeks ago prestigious awards events such as the South African Hip-Hop Awards and the Grammy’s respectively rolled out their nominations lists for the year 2021. It was only a matter of time before Eswatini’s primal awards ceremony, the MTN SWAMA Awards announced its nominees for the 5th edition of the awards.
Eswatini Hip-Hop super star Lyrikal Busta is the most nominated act as he bagged eight nominations on the night. His song King’s Back Freestyle which marked Busta’s return to the industry after a brief hiatus from releasing music was nominated for Best Hip-Hop song and for Best Music Video. Lyrikal Busta and Sean Cast‘s collaborative EP Prayers of a Hustler also secured a nomination for Best Album while the project’s hit single Akusafani Nakucala was nominated for the Best Hip-Hop Song, Best Urban Song and Song of the Year categories respectively.
These nominations are no surprise as Upscale Live artists have been at the fore of the Hip-Hop genre in 2021, Sean Cast also bagged five nominations on the night including the highly coveted Producer of the Year nomination. Other notable Hip-Hop attendees on the night included Hip-Hop DJ of note Supa CDQ who delivered a hot set on the night.
808 Cave members EscoWxrldwide and Amarii were also in attendance as Amarii’s song Play No Games is also nominated for the Best Hip-Hop Song alongside King Terry’s Realtro, Grixxly ft. Originelle’s Bremma To Rio, Spani by Eimsofly ft. Lyrikal Busta , Akusafani Nakucala by Lyrikal Busta & Sean Cast and King’s Back Freestyle by Lyrikal Busta.
