A Right Royal Afternoon Tea Treat!

A delectable afternoon tea we enjoyed towards the end of National Afternoon Tea Week, although I’m a big supporter of this quintessential and delightful of British customs and I’m happy to indulge in it on a weekly basis.

I’m sharing with you a right royal afternoon tea, which we enjoyed at Sandringham last month, before having a private tour around Sandringham House and the Estate.

Afternoon Tea at The Sandringham Courtyard Restaurant is a real treat – situated in Sandringham Estate, this elegant and delicious tea is served on Chelsea botanical porcelain, a design closely derived from a large collection acquired by Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother.

The Sandringham Courtyard Restaurant’s afternoon tea selection of savoury and sweet treats was outstanding, and I say this is a fully-paid up afternoon tea afficiando, serving one every week on my Sunday Tea Tray.

The Afternoon Tea comprised:

• Pulled Ham and Sweet Pickle, Mustard mayonnaise
• Coronation Spiced Chicken, Mango chutney, spinach
• Smoked Trout, Wild rocket and cream cheese
• Truffled Free-Range Egg Mayonnaise, Mustard cress and black pepper
• Freshly Baked Earl Grey Tea-soaked Raisin Scones, Cornish clotted cream and Sandringham strawberry jam
• Apricot Bakewell Tart, Sandringham strawberry jam, almond frangipane and lavender
• Lemon Drizzle Loaf, Velvety citrus zest icing and cornflower
• Red Velvet and Dark Chocolate Ganache, Raspberry and Viola flowers
• Spiced Carrot, Pistachio and Quinoa Cake, Salted caramel cream cheese and pistachio

All served with warm and friendly professionalism, and with ample top-ups of the teapot.

If you have occasion to visit the Royal estate of Sandringham, do book this afternoon tea, it was simply delectable, and the perfect culinary activity to while away an afternoon.

The restaurant is situated in the retail area, with a shop, small garden centre, ice cream kiosk, takeaway terrace and numerous picnic tables are available for al fresco dining and picnicking.

What impressed me was the variety of teas on offer, all by Birchall tea.

We chose their delectable Great Rift Breakfast blend, which is a blend of the finest teas from across East Africa – it was one of the best teas I’ve tasted – full bodied and bright with a clean, crisp taste.
