It was a shock when this man was appointed as Chief Inspector of Air Accidents, as his CV wouldn’t have made the sift for an Inspector’s job… But it was immediately apparent that he was a very safe pair of hands.
He’s been rewarded of course. Good to see that the old system of jobs for the boys is in full swing.
I ought to add that this amplifies how independent the AAIB really is. The progression from CIAA to a board position at the regulator is well established, and the lucrative nature of the position is a powerful stabilising force for the apple cart in roll.
