Remy Ma Gets Blunt and Personal on “Alimony”

Rating: 3 out of 5.

Remy Ma emptied the clip on this EP.

If you ask me, Remy Ma is the hardest female rapper ever. On Alimony, she reminds listeners why that argument is not ridiculous. She raps like an absolute beast over impactful production that frequently sounds powerful enough to move mountains.

The six-track EP arrives after a year filled with public drama surrounding her split from Papoose. Instead of pretending everything is fine, Remy turns the chaos into competitive bars, painful reflections, relationship accusations, and enough anger to make a marriage counselor reconsider their career.

“Rem The Pen” immediately reminds listeners how dangerous Remy can sound when she is locked in. She pays homage to several female rappers, demands the respect she believes has been withheld from her, and seemingly keeps her long-running issues with Nicki Minaj alive.

The project becomes more vulnerable on “Cry In The Wraith,” featuring Tink. Remy looks back at a past relationship, admits she made serious mistakes, and provides enough personal details to make listeners wonder whether Papoose is the unnamed subject.

However, “Why I Get Married?” is where everything explodes. With KeKe Wyatt helping establish the emotional atmosphere, Remy delivers the EP’s strongest performance. She sounds wounded, furious, and prepared to turn every private disagreement into public evidence.

Not everything works. The production occasionally feels trapped in the 2000s, while Remy’s slow-burning flow can make certain songs sound predictable. “Who Raised YOU?” practically demands to be played through a burned CD inside an old Nissan Altima.

Even with those flaws, ‘Alimony’ succeeds whenever Remy becomes competitive, vulnerable, or completely fed up. This project is not peaceful closure. It is six tracks of emotional paperwork.
