A Major Unjust Threat – Adpulp

“The unlicensed use of creative works for training generative AI is a major, unjust threat to the livelihoods of the people behind those works, and must not be permitted.” – Statement on AI Training

Musicians, actors, and writers worldwide are signing their names to a statement opposing artificial intelligence companies and developers using their work without a license.

According to Billboard, the statement comes amid increasing concern from creators and rights holders over how their works are being exploited by AI developers for generative training purposes — and how to rein those tech companies in.

At this time, the statement has received more than 26,500 signatures, including mine. For what it’s worth, Adpulp’s web host recently notified me that ChatGPT’s AI bots are scraping our content. Fun times!

Notable supporters include Ann Patchett, Julianne Moore, Billy Bragg, Thom Yorke, James Patterson, all five members of Radiohead, and The Cure’s Robert Smith.

NBC News reports that no comprehensive legislation exists in the United States to regulate the development of AI, but several states have begun introducing bills to propose specific regulations, particularly around deepfakes.
