So, cat cafes are a thing.
I know it’s a strange way to start a blog post, but here we are. And if you’ve never been to a cat cafe, I handily recommend it, mostly because cats.
And as any brewery will tell you, cats are infinitely more interesting and more useful than dogs. I know there are entire Social Media accounts devoted to nothing but pictures of brewery cats.
Anyway, this particular cat cafe in Ft. Myers, Cattyshack Cat Cafe, is pretty standard in that you’ve got a coffee house portion, and you have a room full of cats (all of which are fully adoptable) that you get to play with. Make a reservation for an hour block, get a drink, and go.

It’s a little more complicated than that, obviously, but it’s made even more fun by the fact that this particular cat cafe had quite the selection of craft beers from around the region.
In fact, there were more than a few that I had never seen before and, considering where I live, I’m probably will not be seeing. Beers such as Daydream Tangerine (Wheat Ale, 5.1% ABV) from the way off wilderness of Casselberry.

I had already had several beers by this point and wasn’t necessarily going for another one, but this one came around and it was absolutely perfect. It’s got a slightly orange color, which is to be expected, and some really great citrus notes.
When it comes to fruit in beer, I’ve really started to love tangerine more than orange because orange tends to be a little more bitter, a touch more acidic, and a bit overdone. Tangerine is a little bit juicier and brings a brighter, lighter flavor that you don’t necessarily see.
Those qualities come into the beer as well, where it also has this interesting effervescence that I absolutely adored. It’s not overly acidic or bitter, just enough to keep things slightly interesting, and it lets the tangerine be the star of the show. Which, of course, it rightfully should be. Hops are low, malt is light, since you’re here for the tangerine.
And I was there for the beer and the cats. Obviously the cats were the primary reason and the beer was a welcome addition. Unfortunately, if I go back and a certain couple of kitties are still there, there’s a fairly high probability that I’ll be leaving with one of them.
