A THIRD OF BRITS TO WATCH SUPER BOWL AT THE PUB, PPL PRS SURVEY FINDS

One in three (33%) Brits will watch this year’s Super Bowl at a pub, bar or club this Sunday, 9 February, according to a new survey* from music licensing company PPL PRS.

A further third (35%) plan to watch elsewhere, while just one in six (15%) don’t plan to watch the game whatsoever.

Atmosphere (46%) is the key driver of punters to venues – far surpassing pre-game entertainment (14%) and the size of the screens showing the game (12%).

Encouragingly for the hospitality industry, just 1% of viewers care most about deals and promotions on food and drinks when selecting a venue.

Music therapist for PPL PRS, Marianne Rizkallah, explains:

The atmosphere in a pub or bar can really make or break a celebratory night. It plays a key role in balancing the moods across the room. If an atmosphere becomes too intense, it risks riling up a crowd and / or causing people to leave.

“There are many benefits to playing music. When choosing tunes that heightens excitement, look at those with Beats Per Minute (BPM) that are slightly faster than the average heart rate. Plus, rises and falls that build anticipation (like when you’re waiting for the drop in an EDM track). Play at a moderate to loud volume for optimal effect.”
