The thing is, we all know that our sensei cannot cling onto his title forever. So, who is the candidate that might become the next sexiest sorcerer? I mean strongest sorcerer?!
Of course, many of you will place your bets on Yuta Okkutsu…
Yet, according to Gojo himself, there are others who possess the potential to surpass him. The question is… who are they?
When Yuji died, Gojo mentioned that he had a dream, a dream to change the Jujutsu world, and in order to do so he is determined to raise “strong and intelligent allies.” (Manga Chapter 114)
Following this, he said: “They’re all great. Especially third year Hakari and second year Okkotsu…
They’ll be as good as me someday… Yuji was no exception.” (Manga Chapter 114)
Do you think Gojo is right about his students? Are they capable of reaching or surpassing his level? Before we see if this is true, note that we’ll discuss four potential candidates according to Gojo himself.
Additionally, we’ll introduce a bonus character later, who has a high chance of rivaling our sensei’s power.

Who is Kinji Hakari?
Starting with our first contender… for the next strongest sorcerer… KINJI HAKARI
Do you recall the episode where Maki talks to Nobara about a third-year student who couldn’t participate in the Kyoto Goodwill Event due to suspension?
Yeah, the troublemaker who reminds us of Satoru Gojo from the past… Wait, Gojo is still a troublemaker.
Getting back to the point, though, that suspended student is Kinji Hakari.
Yuta pointed out that Hakari is a moody person, and said that when he gets worked up, Hakari is actually stronger than him. Imagine that! Someone stronger than Yuta?! (Manga Chapter 146)
How strong is Kinji Hakari?
Bro, this guy is broken! I mean his power is nuts!
To understand his strength the first thing to know is what is his cursed energy?
Hakari mentioned that Gojo labeled his cursed energy as having an “edge.” (Manga Chapter 157)
When Hakari is beating the crap out of Yuji, he explains that Hakari’s punches… “No matter how much or how little strength he puts behind them, they just hurt!” Yuji even compared them to a “serrated bat.” (Manga Chapter 157)
During the Culling Game, Charles described Hakari’s cursed energy as “rough,” just like “sandpaper.” (Manga Chapter 182)
In short, don’t mess with this guy.
What is Hakari’s cursed technique?
It’s called “Private Pure Love Train.” Such a cute name for a tough guy. (Manga Chapter 183)
His cursed technique is like a pachinko game based on a romance manga, and TBH understanding it at first was a bit complicated.
Hakari can also summon visual effect indicators such as the shutter doors outside his domain, and if you’ve ever experienced getting stuck by those doors, then you know how terrifying that is. (Manga Chapter 155)
What is Hakari’s domain expansion?
“Idle Death Gamble” is a pachinko-powered domain. It sets up a train station-like environment where a game of chance takes place. (Manga Chapter 182)
Hakari’s main aim is to align three identical numbers to win a jackpot, but the odds of achieving this are just 1 in 239 tries. (Manga Chapter 183)
How in the world will you win with those odds Kinji?
During his fight with Charles, he explained that he relies on skill to seize hold of luck. (Manga Chapter 183)
While Hitting the jackpot of Idle Death Gamble gives Kinji a special bonus:
Number 1: He gets unlimited cursed energy for four minutes and eleven seconds, matching the duration of the theme song “Admiring You” from the Private Pure Love Train, which plays during this phase. (Manga Chapter 186)
Non-stop action plus good music? Can’t wait to see Kinji’s fight in the anime!
Number 2: “Unkillable Mode” activates even though Hakari never learned reverse cursed technique. Thanks to his limitless cursed energy, his body automatically applies a reverse curse technique to instantly heal any wounds. This ability makes him totally “invincible.” (Manga Chapter 186)
As long as Hakari keeps hitting the jackpot, he can repeatedly activate his domain, and as we witness his battles… Hakari is just like a Leprechaun! A fine lad with the charm of endless luck. (Manga Chapter 186)
Aside from his cursed technique, what else makes Hakari a suitable candidate for the title of the next strongest sorcerer?
I can just say Hakari is a combat genius.
In his battle against Kashimo, it was explained that cursed energy begins in the gut, but when using reverse cursed technique, you need to use your head to control it.
Which means no matter how powerful Hakari’s reverse cursed technique is… if Kashimo crushes his head it’s game over. (Manga Chapter 188)
Despite the lightning already striking his head, Hakari managed to react instantly, healing himself and ejecting Kashimo’s cursed energy out of his nose. (Manga Chapter 188)
That’s how sorcerers get rid of sinuses!
Another example is when Hakari was knocked out by the toxic gas, he managed to use the reverse cursed technique even while he was asleep. This helped him get rid of the poison in his brain and saved him from danger. (Manga Chapter 189)
As their fight continues, Hakari faces Kashimo’s explosive cursed energy release, and in the blink of an eye, Hakari sacrifices his own arm through the binding vow to survive the explosion. (Manga Chapter 190)
With Kinji’s crazy cursed power and his fast thinking, it’s pretty clear he’s got what it takes to become, or maybe surpass… Gojo Satoru.
Now that Kinji has our thumbs up, let’s proceed with candidate number 2… Yuta Okkotsu!
Who is Yuta Okkotsu?!
Yuta is a special grade sorcerer haunted by his late childhood friend, Rika.
Yuta is currently a second-year student at Tokyo Jujutsu High and serves as the main character in Jujutsu Kaisen Zero.
Afterward, he traveled overseas to Africa with Miguel, and following the Shibuya Incident, he returned to Tokyo.
When it comes to his strength, did you know that Yuta is considered second ONLY to Gojo?
People are even whispering that our boy is ‘the next Gojo Satoru,’ but during the Shibuya arc, it was revealed that Kenjaku is against it. (Manga Chapter 90)
That old fart is just jealous because Yuta is way cooler than him.
To find out why, let’s dissect Yuta’s powers and figure out if he’s got a chance to become the next Gojo Satoru…
What is Yuta’s Cursed Energy?
Yuta possesses a MASSIVE amount of cursed energy, even greater than Gojo. (Manga Chapter 140)
This was all thanks to their shared ancestor Michizane Sugawara, which means Gojo and Yuta are actually related.
Yuta’s power came out when he transformed Rika into a cursed spirit. (JJK 0 Manga Chapter 1)
Rika’s vengeful spirit became SO POWERFUL… Geto even crowned her the “Queen of Curses.” (JJK 0 Manga Chapter 4)
Just in case you’re wondering, why can Yuta still summon Rika?
Even though her spirit moved on, Rika Orimoto left behind a part of her feelings and intentions in the cursed spirit. Don’t believe me? Then let me read the quote from chapter 180:
“She loves him after death, and she loves him in the afterlife. The form of this love stays with him, by his side…” Ah, young love! (Manga Chapter 180)
In short. The version of her that Yuta can still summon is only the remnant of the original.
What is Yuta’s Cursed Technique?!
After the real Rika’s spirit passed on, the cursed spirit ‘Rika’ became Yuta’s cursed technique, capable of storing cursed energy and cursed tools. (Manga Chapter 178)
While Yuta and Rika are connected through his ring… Yuta can fully manifest Rika. (Manga Chapter 177)
Besides storing and replenishing cursed energy for Yuta, she also enables him to employ various cursed techniques. (Manga Chapter 178)
To put it simply, Yuta’s cursed technique is “COPY.” (Manga Chapter 178)
That also means he’s the real Kakashi of JJK, NOT Gojo; Gojo is just a better cosplayer.
If you’re sitting there thinking, “Yuta is just copying sh*t, no big deal!” You’re WRONG!
Keep in mind that Yuta has a HUGE amount of cursed energy. That means when he copies someone else’s technique and pulls it off, he’s unleashing some SERIOUS firepower.
Let’s take a look at Inumaki’s cursed speech as an example.
Yuta copied Toge’s cursed speech, and while you might assume they would be on the same level, nuh-uh.
Yuta’s version of cursed speech packs way more punch. We saw that during his fights against Geto and the Culling Game arc. (Manga Chapter 178)
Don’t forget that he also has Drew’s shikigami and Uro’s sky-bending technique, and there’s probably a lot more hidden up his sleeve.
The thing is… Yuta can fully manifest Rika and maintain that connection for only five minutes.
If Kinji is broken, then Yuta is an all around BEAST!
Yuta has a ton of cursed energy, a cursed spirit chick as a sidekick, the ability to use cursed tools, copy techniques, and even utilize the reverse cursed technique…
The only thing that we didn’t see completely is Yuta’s domain expansion. (Manga Chapter 178)
During the Culling Game Yuta used it against Ryu and Uro, but all of them unleashed their domains that resulted in a chaotic clash. (Manga Chapter 179)
Overall, Yuta is good at offense and defense, plus he can support his teammates. I’m telling you, bruh, Yuta is like living in a video game.
With all that over-the-top power, I can confidently say that Yuta definitely stands a high chance of becoming the next strongest sorcerer.
If Kenjaku has a hard time accepting it, we’ll see it for sure when Yuta beats his ass in the future. (Manga Chapter 174)
Yuji Itadori
Now that we’ve covered the senior students, let’s move on to the juniors and meet our third candidate: Yuji Itadori.
Many of you might be wondering right now, how in the world will Yuji surpass Gojo Satoru?
Can he still fight without Ryomen Sukuna?
The same question was asked by Rin btw and Yuji answered that it doesn’t actually matter because Sukuna never helped him anyway. (Manga Chapter 220)
If I were you, bro, I would ask how strong Yuji is without Sukuna?
Yuji already had ridiculous strength before becoming Sukuna’s vessel, and even though he’s no longer a vessel, he has transformed into something more like a cursed object infused with Sukuna’s cursed energy. (Manga Chapter 220)
The thing that really caught my attention is when Yuji said that he will eat anything to kill Sukuna. (Manga Chapter 220)
Hmm, everything, you say… Why does that sound weird?
A few panels later… During his conversation with Choso, it seems like Yuji is taking family dinners to a whole new level by consuming his curse-wombed brothers.
Do you think this is how Yuji can finally have his own cursed technique?
This actually reminds me of the JJK official fan book where Akutami answered this question:
What happens if Itadori, who has a high resistance to curses, consumes a Death Painting Womb?
Gege replied and highlighted various possibilities, but let’s focus on a specific scenario: if Itadori swallows the Death Painting Womb, Sukuna will simply destroy it. (JJK official fan book)
The point is… Sukuna is no longer inside Yuji’s body. In fact, we’ve already caught a glimpse of Yuji’s new power.
This was revealed in Chapter 222 during a sparring match between Yuji and Atsuya.
Later on, it was revealed that Yuji has some sort of body or soul swapping technique.
Fans are dropping tons of theories about this, especially the idea that Yuji might have multiple abilities because he consumed six of his brothers. Does that mean he’s gained six abilities as well?
I can’t say for sure since we currently lack the evidence to support it.
Aside from that… Choso handed over a book to Yuji called “Record of Soul Research.”
This might also connect to Mahito’s “Body and Soul” theory. I mean, seriously, does this guy ever switch topics?
Don’t get me wrong, though– this actually makes me even more excited to see what Yuki’s research is all about.
What secret do you think Yuji might find out? Maybe this might also help him boost his new power up.
With limited evidence at hand, I can’t say for sure if Yuji will reach Gojo’s level.
Megumi Fushiguro
Even though Gojo didn’t mention directly, it appears that he is implying that Megumi also has the potential to surpass him, thereby making Fushiguro Jr. our fourth candidate.
How Megumi Will Surpass his sensei?
Remember in chapter 117 when Satoru explained the reason why the Gojo and Zenin clans hate each other due to historical conflict? (Manga Chapter 117)
The previous leader of the Gojo clan, possessing the six eyes, was killed by the former leader of the Zenin clan, who was a Ten Shadow Technique user… (Manga Chapter 117)
In other words, Gojo is suggesting that Megumi’s cursed technique could surpass his Six Eyes, but it seems Megumi is too flattered to accept that.
A few chapters later we witnessed the might of the Ten Shadows against Yoruzu and now against Gojo Satoru. (Manga Chapter 219 & 234)
Fumihiko Takaba
Now that I’ve introduced the students who could potentially reach or even surpass Gojo’s level, remember that bonus character I mentioned earlier?
This sorcerer probably has more jokes up his sleeve than cursed techniques!
Drop the curtain, prepare the spotlight, and hit the drums!
Ladies and gentlemen, The sorcerer that can rival Gojo is none other than… the one and only… Fumihiko Takaba!
Sooo… who exactly is this guy?
Takaba is an unsuccessful comedian and like many ordinary people, he was transformed into a sorcerer by Kenjaku to take part in the Culling Game. (Manga Chapter 136)
How powerful is Takaba?
Takaba enters the scene to help Megumi, and takes down Hazenoki with such style that even Reggie can’t help but point out the insane boost in his cursed energy!
What is Takaba’s Cursed Technique?
His cursed technique is “Comedian.” whenever he comes up with something that he’s certain will be funny, it becomes reality. (Manga Chapter 173)
For example: when Hazenoki tried to attack him, Hazenoki’s punch just slid through Takaba’s body because Takaba covered himself in Ankake (which is a type of sauce in Japan).
Additionally, he survived Hazenoki’s attacks by healing himself even though he doesn’t know how to use reverse cursed technique.
Imagine Takaba unlocking his ‘Dark humor’ and starting to kill everybody… Damn, that’s scary, but I’m just spitballing ideas with you because there is still no explanation behind Takaba’s ability to turn his humor into reality.
What I love about this guy is that even though he has the potential to oppose Gojo Satoru, he has no idea what the heck his cursed technique is. (Manga Chapter 173)
Conclusion
I’m really excited to see how these sorcerers will perform in the upcoming battles.
I want to witness Yuta’s domain expansion, Yuji’s new powers, and watch Kinji and Takaba go all out in action.
However, what I’m really hyped about is how the gang will rescue Megumi. What if the price of his freedom turns out to be the life of one of their own?
Will Gojo meet his end, letting his students carry on his legacy? Or will this trigger Megumi to awaken his power to bring the dead back to life?
