Sumter County Cleared from Watch: Tornado Threat Continues Overnight : The Alabama Weather Blog

The tornado watch for Sumter County, including the cities of Livingston and York, has been canceled as the severe weather threat there has diminished.

However, Tornado Watch 7 remains in effect until 3 AM CST for 12 counties in Central Alabama, including Autauga, Barbour, Bullock, Dallas, Elmore, Lee, Lowndes, Macon, Marengo, Montgomery, Pike, and Russell. Cities still under the watch include Montgomery, Selma, Auburn, Opelika, Troy, and Phenix City.

Residents in these areas should stay weather-aware and be prepared to take cover if warnings are issued.

A tornado and damaging wind threat will continue into the overnight hours across southern Alabama, with the potential for a strong tornado persisting, particularly along a slow-moving warm front. While severe storm intensity has temporarily decreased, strong low-level wind shear and high moisture levels will continue to support tornado development, especially in areas where the warm front advances northward toward the I-85 corridor. Although the overall severe potential may have peaked, any sustained supercells along this boundary could still produce tornadoes, with the highest risk concentrated in the eastern portion of the state.
