Similar to the loyalty program of sister carrier British Airways, loyal Iberia flyers will soon begin collecting Elite Points with Club Iberia Plus.
With IAG’s airlines changing up their loyalty programs, Iberia is the next one to join “The Club.”
The Spanish flag carrier announced they will rename their loyalty program to Club Iberia Plus, which will offer points based on how much flyers spend with the airline.
Club Iberia Plus Adds Third Earned Loyalty Tier, Elite Points from Spending
Starting on April 1, 2025, flyers will earn Elite Points for every Euro they spend with the airline instead of the distance flown. Elite Points will be earned for spending on the type of fare – Optimal, Comfort, or Flexible – as well as the route and cabin. Points can also be earned from other products, including seat selection, priority boarding and “purchases from brands associated with the program.”
Status is earned by achieving a certain number of flights, or collecting enough Elite Points. The airline says they will reduce the number of flights required for status, making it easier for travelers to level up within the program.
Club Iberia Plus is also adding a third earned loyalty tier, titled Platino Prime. This status can only be earned through spending, and will come with benefits including “a greater accumulation of Avios, more options to obtain free cabin upgrades and exclusive redemption campaigns.” Platino Prime will only be valid for one year.
How flyers earn Avios will not change according to the airline. Earning loyalty currency will still be based on spending.
“We believe that this is a fairer and more transparent way of rewarding our most loyal customers,” Beatriz Guillén, director of global sales and loyalty, said in a statement. “In addition, including the possibility of accumulating Elite Points with our main airline and non-airline partners undoubtedly strengthens our network and offers our customers more and better benefits.”
The move is similar to the announcement by fellow IAG carrier British Airways at the beginning of the year. The British flag carrier announced that they would also move to a spend-based program moving forward, starting with the next loyalty year.
