Navigating the RVA Business Portal

New guidance for using the new RVA Business Portal and other Virginia platforms

The City of Richmond, Virginia launched RVA Business Portal, a new registration and payment platform, in January of 2025 to allow Richmond business owners to complete their organizations’ license and tax transactions online.  Businesses must transition to this online platform for Business Personal Property Filing (BPP) and for Business, Professional, and Occupational License (BPOL) applications and renewals, as it is now the city’s only system for these processes. While online payments for taxes and fees are encouraged, mail-in payments to the Department of Finance are currently still accepted.

Business leaders should register on the RVA Business Portal and file BPOL & BPPT by March 31, 2025 to ensure compliance and avoid late fees and interest.

The City of Richmond hosted a webinar to provide an overview of the portal’s features and answer questions from attendees.

Audio instructions and guidance are available on the RVA Business Portal to help guide new users through this process. An overview of the portal is available as well as step-by-step instructions for:

  • BPP Filing Overview
  • Business License Renewal Overview
  • Registering for Access to BPP Portal
  • Using MFA Codes
