UPSC Prelims Aspirants Seek Postponement of Prelims 2025
Many students preparing for UPSC CSE Prelims 2025 residing in border areas like Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Gujarat are requesting to postpone the exams as they cannot focus on the exams due to the Pahalgam attack and Operation Sindoor. They say they are not able to prepare due to stress, sleepless nights, and emotional exhaustion caused by these recent events. The UPSC Prelims is currently scheduled to be conducted on May 25, 2025.
A former Intelligence Bureau officer, Navjot Singh, has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Jitendra Singh, and Jammu and Kashmir CM Omar Abdullah. In the letter, he said that it is unfair for UPSC aspirants who are living in border areas to compete with other students who are not from border areas and are not affected by the India-Pakistan tensions. He highlighted that many of these students have lost their homes or loved ones, had to move to another place, and faced power cuts. These students also faced constant threats and the fear of attacks.
Not only this, but many students’ family members are in the armed forces. “Even the aspirants from border states who are staying in cities like Delhi for exam preparation have been living in constant fear of the safety of their families back home“, the officer said.
Singh appealed to the UPSC to reschedule the Prelims 2025 exam date to ensure fairness and equal opportunity among all aspirants. He requested the UPSC community to show their support.
One of the users on platform X posted that they had met Jammu and Poonch aspirants, who were hopeless, and some of whom were thinking of skipping this year’s exam because of their difficult situation.
