Why Deloitte is removing gender pronouns and scaling back DEI initiatives

Deloitte told its US employees working on government contracts to remove gender pronouns from their email signatures.

According to Deloitte, this change “aligns with emerging practices and requirements for government clients.”

As we discussed in Episode 424 of The Accounting Podcast, Deloitte is also discontinuing various diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs. The firm is stopping diversity goals, ending its annual DEI report, and wrapping up DEI initiatives.

They’ll keep some things like Heritage Month events, support for ethnic networks, and inclusion councils. And, of course, they say they’ll “continue to enhance hiring practices to ensure they’re fair and non-discriminatory.” How noble.

But here’s what’s most interesting to me about this story – the sheer amount of money Deloitte makes from U.S. government contracts:

Maybe DOGE should take a look into these Deloitte contracts.

We’ve discussed the Big Four’s government consulting arms before on The Accounting Podcast. The amount these agencies pay them is wild. And what do they get for it? Maybe that’s a place to save taxpayers some cash.

But back to the pronouns. Why is Deloitte removing gender pronouns from emails?

It’s simple: they make too much money from the government to risk attention. They don’t want the Trump administration looking their way.
