MobLand (2025): Got to be a Second Season

The Beast in Me, the 2025 finale of MobLand tells us that there has to be a second season. It seems that Harry and Kevin’s scorched earth plan opens a lot of possibilities. Rather than leaving Kevin in clear charge, as he envisions it. Eddie could well make a play, he is after all Mauve’s fave.

Season one

MobLand has been one of the best 10 episode shows on telly this year. A brutal Brit crime drama with more claret (blood) than your average Takashi Miike horror film.

There is quite a lot of knife crime. Also a lot of gun crime. Eddie killing poor old Tommy at the start of the season kicks off a wave of retaliation. This is largely done by shooting the “enemy.” The UK has harsh gun control laws, but the beauty of gangsters is they don’t obey laws.

The deaths are sudden, brutal and in at least one instance, pretty darned messy. See Brendan Harrigan death – episode 7 of MobLand.

Harry

Harry, despite all that is thrown at him, survives. By the end of the season, his marriage may well be in tatters. His daughter is off with the nutcase that is Mauve’s fave. He has managed to declare war with the only other fixer who could successfully take down Richie.

He will need to dance smartly around Mauve and Conrad. The howling mad couple still believe that they are in charge of things. If there is a season 2 of MobLand Harry may have to do battle with everyone.

Including his friend Kevin.

Harry may not survive all out war but he still has Zosia, played brilliantly by Jasmine Jobson, after losing Kiko. She will have his back.

If she survives the war.

Shakespearean

MobLand creator Ronan Bennett gives us a crime family that is almost Shakespearean in scope and depth. We have turncoats, like the delicious Toby Jones’ Tattersall, and unwilling accomplices. Like Jan and Gina. Or Bella.

And there is still mad Mauve to contend with.

There are also outliers here. Characters like Kat, played brilliantly by Janet McTeer, for instance. Kat exudes menace and clear threat just by the lifting, ever so slightly, of an eyebrow.

In this season Harry has been able to exude his own type of menace and threat. An air of power and control. He who must be obeyed, if you will. One gets the impression that with or without the Harrigans, Harry is a player.

This may all change if there is indeed a season two of MobLand.

We can only hope.
