Episode 5 of Season 3 of Reacher:Smackdown is about brutal revenge and death that dismays as much as it confuses. It turns out that Reacher is not alone in Beck’s house of gun runners. ATF also has someone undercover. The surprise is almost as shocking as the character’s death.
The story Continues
Smackdown begins with Duffy and her partner about to be blindsided by Beck’s, or McCabe’s gun toting baddies. Eliot is still babysitting the bodyguard and Reacher asks me to call Duffy and Villanueva and warn them to get out of the warehouse.
Reacher arrives just in the nick of time.

It works
It all works. The bodyguard; John Cooper is no longer under watch. Reacher’s surprise at finding another undercover agent already in the house. That sucker punch of Paulie’s. *A real smackdown for Reacher here as the giant could not wait to pay him back for that trick shot in the gym.* There is a new agent’s death and everything is ramping up like rocket fuel in overdrive.
Reacher rescuing the two agents; Duffy and Villanueva then starts following a trail of information. Harley revealing that he thinks everyone apart from himself is “cannon fodder.” McCabe is now on the way and Reacher learns that Annette was killed by Paulie. I just gave her a, “slap to the head,” the monolith intones before giving Reacher his own “slap.”
*Duffy’s dream. She believes fervently that Teresa will show up alive. Just like little Marco Menjivar back in the day. In her dream, the kidnapper may not walk into a shop for ice cream with the missing Teresa, but she still dreams that her reluctant informant is alive.*
Will he or won’t he
Episode 5 of Reacher ends with a body trail that would impress the most ardent Sylvester Stallone fan. We also wait with baited breath to see if Quinn, aka; McCabe remembers the man who “killed” him. Is another Smackdown on the horizon?
the verdict
Rancher “Smackdown” is a real full 5 stars this week. It kept me on the edge of my seat, in the second half at any rate, waiting to see who is going into the sea’s flushing toilet first. Harley, who really is not a nice chap, or Paulie; who is even less of a nice chap.
Perhaps Reacher will toss them together for a “double header.”
