The Accountant 2 (2025): Brotherly Love

The 2025 film The Accountant 2 makes the logical move of including Brax, aka; Braxton as partner to Christopher. This “display” of brotherly love makes sense. The film explores their relationship further. Rather interestingly, it ties up at least on loose end and opens another in The Accountant world.

Overall though, The Accountant 2 initially feels like a cheaper version of the original. Christian Wolff in the first film feels different, more authoritative, less reflective, and diffident.

The Accountant 2 also feels like it could be turning into another version of The Equalizer.

The story

Christian Wolff is approached by Marybeth Medina. She wants his help to solve her boss’s murder. Rather quickly, Christian realises he needs help. He calls Braxton and the two brothers form an uneasy alliance. In The Accountant 2 the brotherly team and Medina work together. Although the government agent hates their methods.

The Accountant 2 Works

Writer Bill Dubuque and director Gavin O’Connor take us back into the world of “Solomon Grundy” after a long wait. We get some closure, of a sort, with both Ray King’s exit and the reemergence of Medina. King is semi retired and Medina becomes involved after his assassination.

This sequel sees a focus on illegal immigration, and the introduction to a new term; Acquired Savant Syndrome. *It was perhaps mentioned before, but The Accountant 2 brings it to the fore.*

There is plenty of action in this one. A closer look at Christopher and Braxton. It is, at times, amusing, disconcerting and eye opening. We also finally find out who Justine really is.

Stunts and fights

The Accountant 2 is action heavy. DP Seamus McGarvey and Editor Richard Pearson brilliantly with Fight Coordinator Vlad Rimburg and Fight Choreographer David Conk. This team make the fights look spectacular. All the stunts and physical reactions look brutal and convincing.

Thoughts

Initially, I felt that The Accountant 2 looked too pedestrian compared to the first film. It seemed to have stepped out of the celluloid box and into video. Once the story develops past the first reel, however, everything slips into place.

There is a clear allusion to X Men here. It features a Xavier with long brown hair and a different “disability,” but the allusion is there. Kudos for this development of the story and the characters. The message seems to be that acquired savant syndrome is more common than we think.

The bonding of Christian, Braxton and even Marybeth works. It is awkward, funny and touching to see the brothers working so hard to become family. This storyline is special and makes the movie work brilliantly.

The line dance sequence is beyond perfect.

The Verdict

The Accountant 2 slams into 5 star territory with the ferocity of a high calibre sniper round. I enjoyed the heck out of this one. The pairing of Braxton and Christopher works on so many levels, and each one is entertaining. The film is streaming on Amazon Prime right now. Check it out.
