About Us
The Center for Artistic Activism transforms advocacy through the power of creativity.
We equip activists, artists, and organizations with the skills, strategies, and resources to make social justice movements more effective, imaginative, and impactful. By integrating art and activism, we challenge injustice, shift cultural narratives, and inspire action.
Through research, training, and community building, we help changemakers worldwide harness creativity to combat authoritarianism, inequality, and systemic oppression. We work with those on the front lines of racial justice, democracy, immigration, climate action, healthcare access, LGBTQ+ rights, and beyond, empowering them to move people, change policies, and create a more just and joyful future.
At the Center for Artistic Activism, we believe imagination powers change and changes power.
Role
We’re seeking a creative and detail-oriented Summer Communications Assistant to support our content and campaign efforts. This role involves helping prepare and publish digital content, especially social media and newsletters, and collaborating closely with the Communications Manager to bring stories of artistic activism to life.
What You’ll Do
- Turn written copy into visual social media content using Canva, and schedule posts using Social Pilot, tag partners, and reply to comments and direct messages
- Prepare newsletter drafts in Bloomerang based on the written copy provided, including designing graphics in Canva and submitting test emails for final approval
- Assist with light content management and publishing via our WordPress site
- Upload editorial content, such as Impact Project stories, event recaps, etc., and help with formatting or visual layout
- Collaborate on scheduling, asset organization, and internal content trackers
- Attend weekly check-ins and contribute to content planning conversations
There may be opportunities to contribute to C4AA’s social media strategy, develop and implement creative new ways to reach our audiences, and delve into our archives to find and then share nuggets of inspiring artistic activism. If you’re full of ideas and passionate about culture change, there’s space here to go beyond execution and explore our archives, pitch creative content ideas, and help shape how we communicate the power of artistic activism.
The ideal candidate will:
- Have experience creating and managing digital content for social media or email and using scheduling platforms like Social Pilot or similar
- Be comfortable using Canva and doing some graphic design work
- Be interested in art + activism, and passionate about reaching change-makers
- Have some familiarity with CMS and CRM tools (e.g. WordPress, Bloomerang)
- Be detail-oriented and enjoy following visual and editorial brand guidelines
- Be an excellent writer, and can adapt text to different tones and audiences
- Have a small portfolio of work (this can include social posts, email layouts, graphics, blog writing, etc.)
