2024 Wrapped: Year in Review

As the end of the year approaches, we’re looking back at another memorable 12 months at African Adventures, made possible by you, our volunteers and supporters.

Proudly presenting 2024 Wrapped: Year in Review.

Expanding our impact in Kenya and Zanzibar

With our programmes growing and more volunteers to help bring our work to life, we partnered with 13 new schools across Kenya and Zanzibar to extend our impact and provide more children with a quality education.

Creating an engaging and safe learning environment

Overcrowded and poorly maintained classrooms are a significant issue across our partner schools in Ghana, Kenya and Zanzibar.

Our volunteers worked extremely hard this year across all our destinations, helping to renovate classrooms and replacing semi-permanent classrooms with brick-built structures. They not only improve learning conditions for thousands of students but also encourage increased school enrolment across some of our partner schools.

Flora Primary School

Flora Primary School, a new partner school for 2024, welcomed two groups of volunteers this year to help with their classroom renovation project.

The roofs of the classrooms at Flora are made of tin, causing the classrooms to get extremely hot as the sun beats down on them. Our volunteers helped to install new wooden boards, creating a cooler learning environment for the students.

Volunteers also painted five classrooms and the corridors to create an engaging learning environment.

Little Roses

Little Roses, in Ghana, saw fantastic progress with their permanent classroom project this year, as our volunteers moulded bricks, levelled classroom floors and supported Fundis with the brickwork to construct a four-unit classroom block, which is set to be finished in 2025.

When it rains, the current temporary classrooms flood and can’t be used, dramatically reducing students’ learning time.  The new brick classrooms will ensure that all lessons can take place in a safe and practical learning environment.

Jubilee Academy

Jubilee Academy, in Kenya, saw the completion of its single-story permanent classroom block, consisting of three classrooms. Lessons are now taking place in the classrooms, providing a safe learning environment that will allow them to enrol more students.

Launch of the WASH Programme in Ghana

After the success of the WASH Programme in Zanzibar, African Adventures Foundation was awarded funding in 2024 to continue this vital work at our partner schools in Ghana.

This year, the WASH Programme has been rolled out to two of our partner schools, Dornorgbor School and Ashata School. The first stage, construction of the toilet blocks and menstrual health management rooms, has been completed and will help improve the health and hygiene standards for over 1,330 students.

Partnering with Tegbi Birthing Clinic

This year, we officially partnered with Tegbi Birthing Clinic in Woe, Ghana, through a new off-setting scheme by African Adventures, which has seen the clinic receive 30 maternity packs each month to support those mothers who cannot afford these essential supplies.

So many of the women who attend the birthing centre are unable to afford the most basic of items for their newborn. At an already challenging time in early motherhood, we want to support mothers with the items they need to care for their babies.

What’s next?

We want to say a huge thank you to everyone who has supported us this year. We couldn’t do what we do without you! Plans are well underway for our 2025 programme, including rolling out The WASH Programme to more of our partner schools in Ghana, continuing the construction of permanent classrooms in Kenya and much, much more! We hope to see some of you in Ghana, Kenya or Zanzibar next year!
