Parks Victoria plans to improve the visitor experience at MacKenzie Falls, one of the most visited sites in the Grampians National Park.
Brand new improvements are coming to the MacKenzie Falls viewing precinct in the Grampians (Gariwerd) National Park by the end of 2025. The falls is one of the most iconic spots within the park, and one of the largest waterfalls in Victoria – it’s the only one in the Grampians that flows all year round.
The Victorian Government is investing $7.76 million in the area as part of the Greater Gariwerd Landscape Management Plan. The Gunditj Mirring Traditional Owners Aboriginal Corporation, Eastern Maar Aboriginal Corporation, and Barengi Gadjin Land Council Aboriginal Corporation have been consulted in the planning and design of the project.

What improvements will be coming to the viewing area?
The main improvements are related to improving accessibility, safety, and access to the waterfall viewing area.
These include:
- Installing cables and mesh and realigning a section of the boardwalk to reduce the risk of rockfalls
- Introducing a new viewing platform at the base of the falls, which will allow over 40 people to view at one time. The design will integrate elements of the blackfish, a species of particular importance to the area
- Upgrading the Bluff Lookout Walking Track to make it more accessible to prams, wheelchairs, and visitors with limited mobility
- Adding new car parks to improve traffic flow, taking the total parking up to 120 car parking spaces and 14 long vehicle parking spaces
- Improved signage to provide clearer directions and educational information about the park
The project is currently in the design development stage, with construction aiming to be completed by late 2025.
