It’s December, which means the month when I sell more books than the rest of the year put together. If I could tempt just 1% of you readers to gift one of my books this Xmas I would cover the costs of running this newsletter. •   A lovely premise for a journey: a retired teacher cycling across France delivering letters to loved ones.
•  For map geeks, I love this website that compares where you live with old maps from the 1840s. Fabulous. (Works much better on desktop than mobile; Britain only)

I’m a long-time supporter of Hope and Homes for Children, a charity born from the suffering of orphans during war. 30 years on, their work is as vital as ever. As the war in Ukraine intensifies, many people want to do something – anything – to help. Here are four ways a donation to their work will make a difference to vulnerable children and families.
