‘The Invisibles,’ by Susie Bower, cover by Thy Bui. – Library Girl and Book Boy

Today I’m sharing a brand new middle grade title from the wonderful Susie Bower. Just as magical and intently woven as her previous titles – readers are in for a treat!

“A magical kingdom. Four friends. One terrible mistake… In the Land of Magic, four friends live a life filled with wonder. But there’s one rule they must not break: never set foot on the Island of Darkness. So, when one child does the unthinkable, they must all pay a terrible price – exile to Wasteland, the bleak world where only grown-ups live. For Grace, this fate is particularly cruel. She wakes up with no memory of her magical home, or how she ended up here – and the only clue to her past is guarded by two hostile and mysteriously invisible children. As Grace uncovers the Invisibles’ secrets, she must work out a way to return home, before Wasteland traps her forever…”

I love a magical fantasy adventure. This one took a dark twist early on as the story shifted to the foreboding Wasteland. I was left trying to guess what was going to happen next as Grace struggled to put her fragmented memories back together again.

I was intrigued as to just who the Invisibles were and how all the children were connected. Watching them work together to try and discover the truth, all whilst avoiding the much-feared Catcher, I was desperately hoping they would find their way back to The Land of Magics.

As well as the wonderful magical world created by Susie, readers will be drawn in by the themes of friendship, trust, and striving towards a common goal.

Jo.
