Air Europa has become the first Spanish operator of the Boeing 737 MAX 8 upon welcoming the carrier’s newest aircraft to its 42-strong fleet.
The new Boeing 737 MAX 8 officially joined the Air Europa fleet on May 21, 2025, as part of a leasing agreement with AerCap that was agreed in 2022.
Three more 737-8s will arrive this year, followed by a dozen in 2026, plus another four by mid-2027. According to ch-aviation, Air Europa is awaiting delivery of 29 MAX 8s.
“The addition of this unit opens a new era for Air Europa,” said Juan José Hidalgo, President of Air Europa. “In addition to consolidating our ongoing fleet modernization process, we continue to innovate with cutting-edge technology through aircraft that allow us to continue leading the way in terms of sustainability and efficiency.”
He added: “It is also a model that contributes to reducing operating costs, including maintenance costs, helping us continue to meet our long-term profitability objectives.”
Air Europa will begin incorporating 737-8s to cover medium-haul continental routes, plus other short-haul routes between domestic destinations.
“This continues the airline’s fleet renewal process, which completed its consolidation around exclusively Boeing models several years ago,” a spokesperson for Air Europa said.
Air Europa’s current active fleet consists of 17 Boeing 737-800s, nine 787-8 Dreamliners and 16 787-9 Dreamliners.

Boeing’s Vice President of Commercial Sales & Marketing Europe & Israel, Ricardo Cavero, also commented on the significance of the new arrival.
