Two Alaska Airlines Boeing 737 aircraft clipped their wings at Seattle-Tacoma (SEA) airport on May 17, 2025, as they prepared to depart for their respective destinations.
Flights AS1190 and AS1094, bound for Orange County and Sacramento, respectively, were being pushed away from the gate simultaneously by ground service vehicles when their wings collided.
No passengers or crew were injured in the incident, which took place shortly after midday local time.
All passengers were subsequently disembarked and could continue their journey several hours later on replacement aircraft. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is investigating the circumstances that led to the incident.
This is the third wing clipping incident at a US airport in a matter of weeks.
On April 10, 2025, two regional aircraft, a CRJ700 and an Embraer E175, clipped wings at Washington’s Ronald Reagan National Airport (DCA).
Although both flights, AA5490 to Charleston, South Carolina, and AA4522 for New York-JFK International Airport, had American Airlines codes, these were operated under contract by PSA Airlines and Republic Airways, respectively.
And on May 6, 2025, there was a similar incident at San Francisco International Airport (SFO), this time involving two United Airlines Boeing 777 long-haul aircraft. UA 863 was about to depart for Sydney, Australia (SYD) when it clipped wings with UA877, headed to Hong Kong (HKG) shortly after midnight.
No passengers or crew were injured in any of these wing-clipping incidents.
