Cathay Pacific has announced that it is set to launch direct flights between Hong Kong International Airport (HKG) and Urumqi Diwopu International Airport (URC) in China’s northwestern region.
The four-times-weekly flights, which will be serviced using the carrier’s fleet of Airbus A330-300 aircraft, are set to commence on April 28, 2025.
Urumqi marks Cathay Pacific’s 20th destination to mainland China.
“Urumqi is an exciting new addition to our network, directly connecting our home city with an important Belt and Road hub in Northwestern China,” Cathay Chief Customer and Commercial Officer Lavinia Lau said in a statement.
“As Hong Kong’s home airline, we have deep roots in our home city and are proudly part of China. We are committed to providing our customers with even more destination and flight choices when travelling between Hong Kong, the Chinese Mainland and beyond,” Lau added.
Lau noted that Urumqi is the Cathay Group’s 11th new port announced so far in 2025/ this year, adding that the group plans to reach 100 destinations globally by end of the year.
Aside from Urumqi, the airline is set to launch the following direct flights from Hong Kong this year:
- Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi Intl Airport – Shamshabad Airport (HYD) in March
- Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) in April
- Leonardo da Vinci Rome Fiumicino Airport (FCO) and Munich Airport (MUC) in June
- Brussels Airport (BRU) in August
HK Express, a low-cost carrier fully owned by Cathay Pacific, began services to Japan’s Sendai Airport (SDJ)i in January 2025. It intends to launch direct flights to Nha Trang’s Cam Ranh International Airport (CXR), Komatsu Airport (KMQ) and New Ishigaki Airport (ISG) in April, and Miyako Shimojishima (SHI) in June.
