Ultra-low-cost carrier Spirit Airlines has named Dave Davis as its new President and CEO, as part of the airline’s plan to resume operations after successfully completing a Chapter 11 restructuring.
Davis will begin his role at the airline on April 21, 2025, as announced in a statement on April 17, 2025. He comes to Spirit from Sun Country Airlines, where he served as President and Chief Financial Officer and member of the Board of Directors.
“Dave’s background at both Northwest Airlines and, more recently, at Sun Country Airlines, positions him well to lead Spirit’s continued transformation,” said Robert Milton, Chairman of Spirit Airlines.
Davis expressed his excitement about joining Spirit at this “critical time in the company’s history,” and is eager to collaborate with Spirit’s 11,000+ strong team, the statement read.
Additionally, Spirit has announced the appointment of Duncan Dee as Senior Vice President of Corporate Communications, overseeing all internal and external communications for the airline.
Furthermore, the airline said that Trey Urbahn will take on the role of Senior Commercial Advisor, providing support and guidance for Spirit’s commercial initiatives and the airline’s onboard configurations and offerings.
These leadership changes follow Spirit’s announcement on April 7, 2025, regarding the exit of its previous President and CEO, Ted Christie.
Spirit Airlines is currently dealing with financial challenges and is undergoing restructuring.
However, on March 12, 2025, Spirit announced that it had exited Chapter 11 restructuring after a United States court approved its reorganization plan, which included a $350 million equity investment from existing investors.
