In 5 Days, I Made $169.45 From One Post on X Selling A FREE Product | by Amado Aguilar | ILLUMINATION | Mar, 2025

I know that $169.45 is not a crazy amount of money, but this came as a result of giving something away for free with incredibly low attention and zero marketing costs. This was the result of just 57 leads from a single post on X (Twitter).

With a mix of marketing strategies, this single post became a profitable little campaign process that you can repeat.

Here’s how I did it.

This is the first step of the marketing funnel that gets leads from a social media platform into your ToFu (Top of Funnel).

The post in this example had really low engagement for a giveaway (GA), which is below my average and far below the average of good content creators. On average, I get about 83 comments per giveaway (GA) post, while good GA posts can get around 300–400+ comments. So, this is an example of what happens even when engagement is really low.

I know that these are not big, flashy, and appealing numbers that everyone loves to see, but realistically, getting there takes lots of time and experience. Not everyone starts getting thousands of leads per post, nor do you get thousands of dollars a week from a minimal campaign like this, let alone from a single post.

But don’t get me wrong, it’s totally possible, but achieving that level of success requires lots of repetition. That’s why I want to share this simple example with you: It’s something anyone, including you, can do.

I’ve been using this strategy for only a few months, and most of that time was spent experimenting and testing. Once I realized this strategy worked, I quickly created a few low-cost products and one flagship product. This way, I could offer something inside the funnel.

This is where funnel marketing comes into play.

When publishing on X, only a fractional percentage of your audience that engages with your content will go into your funnels. That can mean

  • Clicking links in your pinned posts
  • Signing up for a newsletter
  • Exploring your website
  • Clicking links in DMs

Think of this like a water hose or electrical circuit. Where there is tons of resistance to get from one end to the other. To get from the social platform (X) and onto your email list.

There’s multiple ways to reduce resistance and increase the flow of traffic through your funnel. One of those strategies is lead magnet giveaways (freebies).

Basically, you offer a lead magnet directly on the social platform (X), where people engage with your post and go through the funnel. Then, they sign up for the free product at checkout, giving you your second chance to upsell to a paid product.

Your first chance is on the landing page, where you can upsell a premium version of the free product they came for.

But, if your audience skips past the landing page offer, you have this second chance at checkout, where a small percentage usually buys an upsell product.

This is where I managed to get $70.65 from only 57 leads and from one single post. Here’s a screenshot from my analytics page that captures the time period for this giveaway.

But the sales revenue doesn’t end there because the funnel has a few more steps before moving on to the next phase of the marketing funnel.

Once your leads sign up for the free product (or paid product from upsells), you need to deliver them the product they signed up for. That means you have to either send them to a thank you page where they can access the product or send them a delivery email with a link to the product.

I use both.

Each one is to make the customer’s journey as pleasant, simple, and frictionless as possible. All they want is the product. So, I make sure they get it both ways.

But this is where you can take advantage of two opportunities to further upsell better products, cross-sell, or bundle up offers.

From the Thank You page, I occasionally get some sales, but for this example, there were none. However, once they received my delivery email, I got another sale that brought in another $20.

But email marketing doesn’t end there. Because you can continue sending these leads direct emails specifically to them using tags and automations.

Since they found interest in this one product, they get tagged after signing up, which triggers an automated email sequence to send them more content, more value, and offer more products.

At this point, this is where I start leveraging my favorite part of the funnel, product marketing.

This is where they get the product they came for, which is packed with valuable content. I make sure to over deliver with my products, including lead magnets, that way they feel they got tons of value well worth their time.

The purpose of this is simple.

Give more value to gain more trust from your audience. When they trust you, they’re more likely to purchase your premium products.

But, I don’t stop there. Your content doesn’t just have to build trust; your content should help your audience advance to the next steps they’re trying to reach. And that usually requires

  • another product(s)
  • A professional service
  • Recommended tools (software)

This is how I manage to gain more sales, which has been my second most effective marketing strategy behind upsells. I give them all the help they need to solve their one problem and offer the solution to the next logical step in their journey.

You can either sell them on products, services, or software that you offer or that you offer for an affiliate. And this is where affiliate marketing comes into play, further increasing my revenue from this same single post.

Not all creators make products to sell to their audience. Some creators make millions of dollars a year simply by recommending other people’s/companies products.

Two notable examples I like to follow are Pat Flynn and Adam Enfroy, who create extensive content while recommending software and physical products. They carefully research their audience’s goals and simplify their lives by recommending affiliate products that solve their audience’s specific problems.

So, as your content solves your lead’s problems, you can direct them to products you don’t own but are affiliated with. You’re basically a salesman (middleman) who gets paid a commission for getting someone else a customer.

One simple way I do this is by adding my Notion affiliate link when I send leads the product they signed up for. This way, if they decide to create a paid account with Notion, then I’ll get a commission for that sale. And for this one single post (only 57 leads), I managed to get a new sign-up, which translates to an extra $78.80.

If you’re curious about Notion’s affiliate program, Notion pays $50 per paid referral and another 20% a month for a year. So, $28.80 will be paid out over the course of 12 months.

It’s not much for only one referral, but like I said earlier in this post, this strategy is built up over many repetitions. By repeating this product marketing strategy, you’ll repeatedly gain more and more affiliate sales over time.

You can do this, too, by signing up for affiliate programs and selling other people’s products. You don’t have to spend weeks, months, or years building things. You can start by recommending other people’s stuff using the same strategy in this section.

I also offer an affiliate program where you can sign up here if you want to start using this strategy too.

Here’s the breakdown of what this single post brought in:

  • 9 new followers
  • 9 new email subscribers
  • $70.65 from checkout upsells
  • $20 from email marketing
  • Projected $78.80 in affiliate commissions

And the best part is that these leads are still in my funnel.

That means more future sales, trust, and long-term revenue. As long as you continue nurturing and providing value to your audience, the lifetime value of this single post will continue to grow.

And this is just the beginning. Because as these leads continue to engage with my content, their lifetime value will continue to grow. And remember — all of this came from one post that performed below average, with minimal engagement and only 36 leads. You can keep repeating this process over and over and over again, compounding with every new post.

This proves you don’t need 100k followers or tons of post engagement to make money online. It’s a repeatable process that I systemized using the

Lead Generation X System

I created.

Everything starts with getting attention on social media and getting leads into your funnel. And if you’re ready to get results from your content on X, and start making money from simple posts like these, then sign up to watch the free video on how I did it
