Wryn is moniker used by American singer-songwriter Sharon Van Etten. The artist’s newest song “Snake” delicately tackles sensitive political and social issues such as the Black Lives Matter movement, anti-trans legislation and the overturning of Roe v. Wade.
“This song stems from a righteous anger. A call to something older and deeper, it taps into my own personal experiences of not just systemic violence but the intimate + interpersonal kind. Having experienced assault in my past, this song was a way to transform my own pain into a call to action. ‘I can’t wait for an answer before I get free,’” says Wryn.
The track was produced by Bella Blasko, whose production augments the intense emotions in Wryn’s lyrics.
