Ghana’s brightest rising star has not finished making a name for herself. Following the success of “Shake It To The Max”, which catapulted her to the forefront of the music scene, Moliy’s link-up with Jamaican dancehall heavyweights is now taking her to the upper echelons. Anticipating this upcoming boom, we sat down with her to discuss her feelings on these pieces of work.
What a fortuitous path this Ghana-based gifted singer and songwriter has taken since her acclaimed breakthrough with the hit “Sad Girlz Luv Money”. Originally from Accra, Ghana, with a period in Florida after she turned 18, Moliy defines herself as an artist who thrives in Afrofusion. She known for her distinctive fusion of West African highlife, afrobeats rhythms, vibrant melodies, and an eclectic mix of global influences: “I think it’s fresh. I think it’s the future. Sometimes I even get comments like, is this AI? People hear my voice, and they’re surprised that there’s an actual human behind because it sounds new, interesting, futuristic and childlike. But I think people also get a sense of freedom, excitement thanks to it.” This blend of sounds is also reflected in her various musical inspirations, which have further fleshed out her current artistic identity: “I’ve always had a very vibrant way of enjoying music. I don’t think I ever just stuck to one thing I’ve always had like different phases. I have a deep artistic affinity with women who express themselves with confidence in their art. These women are truly incredible sources of creative inspiration, like Itz Tiffany, Ebony or Ms. Bell.”
Through her music, MOLIY creates a space where authenticity and self-assurance are celebrated, encouraging her audience to embrace their individuality and strength. Mirroring the harmony Moliy conveys in her musical creations, she also draws on her own experiences, stories and daily observations to shape her lyrics: “I think that most of the time I’m inspired by what I see. I love creating. I recently found an artist from Paris. She’s called Theodora. I think she’s so incredible and I want to work with her. It’s been a while since I found an artist that surprises me in a good way and got me like OMG.”
Moliy’s successful global solo debut was an obvious follow-up, given that so many influential industry insiders had co-signed her talent. Moliy’s polished debut has been meticulously teased since the last quarter of 2024, when she initiated the dance challenge on this track and planted the seeds of a future tsunami of streams on music platforms. It’s now a done deal: « I really am grateful for this moment. I’m taking it all in. I’m doing something that I love, and people are loving it alongside me. I think that’s a beautiful thing. I just hope it only gets better and better. That’s how I feel. And I’m also surprised that the world is still like rolling with me because I’ve been promoting the song for months. It seems like the buildup is just getting stronger. My team and I had a feeling that there would be a remix. My goal was to get this sound moving again through remixes with amazing artists that wanted to be a part of this journey out of love and believing in the bigger picture. This is what I was looking for in a remix. And I think that’s exactly what’s happening.”
Dropping just in time, this remix fuses the unstoppable energy of Afrobeat with Caribbean dancehall vibes, creating a soundtrack for the season’s best parties and memorable celebrations. The impact of heavyweights like Shenseea and Skillibeng will undoubtedly contribute to the international success of this sound : “I know the song has been doing amazing in Jamaica but I am really grateful to be working alongside Silent Addy. He’s a really dope DJ and producer. We also have Disco Neil as a producer. They’re from Jamaica so they’ve been able to have their own audience and relationships with Jamaican artists. Gamma as well. I’m grateful to work with the talented people who keep Shake It To The Max thriving. Our team spirit is what makes the current success possible.”
Its commercial success is now a sure thing and leaves the way open for exciting new perspectives for Moliy. With a visual in the pipeline and another remix sure to follow, one thing’s for sure: this Ghanaian talent has not finished amazing us.
