Mzigo by Wangechi is a powerhouse song that expresses the confidence and drive that is within the rapper Wangechi. Bar after bar, she hits you with why her name should be rung in every room within the rap space. Her confidence is inspiring as well as exhilarating. It shines in her lyrics and pulls you into her track. She comes in strong at first by declaring, “Allow me kwanza nijiintroduce Bad bitch naeza kukuseduce” translation (“Allow me to introduce myself first, Bad bitch, I want to seduce you”) She’s letting it be known who’s in charge, and who’s the woman in the forefront that is worthy of all the attention. Every bar that follows showcases how her introduction of confidence is here to stay for the remainder of the track.
“Sound unaskia ni freshi, kwa track na Queen Wangechi Kwa rap mi ni chizi freshi hah, kwa ground mi mtoto wa Messi, hah.” translation: (“The sound you hear is fresh, with a track by Queen Wangechi For rap I’m fresh cheese hah, for ground I’m Messi’s child, hah.”) This verse is such a dope line that pays homage to the great soccer player Messi. He is known for his amazing soccer skills and abilities on the field. Record after record have been broken by him, and for Wangechi she strongly stands on her abilities being so good that it earns her the title of ‘Messi’s Child’. This isn’t far-fetched due to her rap abilities being so fierce that they draw so much attention similar to Messi.
I would highly recommend checking out Wangechi and her song Mzigo, her personality is one that is definitely needed in the rap game. Women have been taking over the rap space and scene, and Wangechi is amongst them and rightfully taking over the scene!
